Fire Adapted Park County

Partnering with PARK COUNTY to prevent wildfire, one community at a time.

Know your risk

Is your home in the danger zone?

Park County is among Colorado’s most wildfire-prone counties due to its extensive wildland-urban interface (WUI), dense forest cover, and dry, windy climate. The county has experienced several major wildfires over the past two decades, including the Hayman Fire’s regional impacts and more localized events near Bailey and Lake George. Prolonged drought, beetle-killed forests, and increasing development in fire-prone areas contribute to elevated risk. Wildfire ranked as the #1 hazard of concern in Park County based on the 2025 Hazard Ranking Worksheet, reflecting its countywide exposure, recurrent events, and high potential for life-safety impacts.
